Ubi-finger: a Simple Gesture Input Device for Mobile and Ubiquitous Environment

چکیده
We propose a novel interface in mobile environment called “Ubi-Finger” that realizes sensuous operations for PDAs and information appliances using gestures of fingers. In this paper, first, we propose the concept of Ubi-Finger. This concept enables users to sensuously control various devices in the real world. Since gestures are usual methods of nonverbal communications and enables sensuous operations for users, many researches on them carried out especially in the field of Virtual Reality. In the meanwhile, the uses of computers have rapidly extended to the daily life, such as mobile computing and ubiquitous computing.Ubi-Finger is a gesture-input device, which is simple, compact, and optimized for the new computing environment. Second, we develop prototype systems based on the concept that can control real-world devices with simple and natural gestures. Third, we develop some applications to control devices in the real world. Using our systems, a user can detect a target device by pointing with her/his index finger, then control it flexibly by performing natural gestures of fingers. Finally, we evaluate how effective our approach works.

متن کاملAn Evaluation of Finger-Gesture Interaction on Mobile Devices for Elderly Users
Recent years have seen the dissemination of gesture-based interaction elements to an increasing number of mass consumer products, most notably finger-gesture interaction on small touchscreen devices. In the present study we investigate whether this new way of interacting with technical devices could be a means of facilitating human technology interaction, particularly for older users. This user...
متن کاملAnywhereTouch: Finger Tracking Method on Arbitrary Surface Using Nailed-Mounted IMU for Mobile HMD
Owing to the development of mobile head mounted display(HMD)s, a mobile input device is becoming necessary in order to manipulate virtual objects which are displayed in an HMD anytime and anywhere. There have been many research studies using ray-casting technique for 3D interactions using an HMD. However, traditional ray-casting-based interactions have limitations of usability due to additional...
متن کاملHuman System Interaction through Distributed Devices in Intelligent Space
Intelligent Space (iSpace) is a space with ubiquitous sensors and actuators (Lee & Hashimoto, 2002). iSpace observes the space using the distributed sensors, extracts useful information from the obtained data and provides various services to the users through the actuators. iSpace can be considered as an “invisible” robot that is united with the environment since it can carry out the fundamenta...
متن کاملIntegrating Intra and Extra Gestures into a Mobile and Multimodal Shopping Assistant
Accompanying the rise of mobile and pervasive computing, applications now need to adapt to their surrounding environments and provide users with information in the environment in an easy and natural manner. In this paper we describe a user interface that integrates multimodal input on a handheld device with external gestures performed with real world artifacts. The described approach extends re...
